Richard Widmark

Richard Widmark 

Nació el 26 de diciembre de 1914 en Sunrise, MN. 

Se dedicó dos años a la enseñanza y posteriormente se inicia en la actuación. Aparece en programas y series radiofónicas como  Mercury Theatre on the Air (de Orson Welles), Big Sister, Front Page Farrell,Gangbusters o Home of the Brave, y hace su debut en el escenario en 1943 en Kiss and Tell. 

Aparece en Dunningan's Daughter   (realización de  Elia Kazan) y Joan of Lorraine (junto a Ingrid Bergman). En 1947, Henry Hathaway le hace encarnar al psicópata Tommy Udo en El beso de la muerte. Fue uno de los "villanos" más populares de Hollywood. Trabajó para Jules Dassin   (Noche en la ciudad),  Joseph L. Mankiewicz (Un rayo de luz), Elia Kazan (Pánico en las calles), Jean Negulesco (El parador del camino) y Samuel Fuller (Manos peligrosas).

También trabajó en clásicos del western, entre los que destacan Cielo amarillo (W. A. Wellman), Desafío en la ciudad muerta , John Sturges), La ley del talión (D. Daves), El Alamo (John Wayne) y Dos cabalgan juntos (John Ford). Posteriormente fue el psiquiatra de La tela de araña (Vicente Minnelli) y el fiscal de Vencedores y vencidos (Stanley Kramer). 

Se inició en la producción con Labios sellados (Karl Malden), Caminos secretos   (Phil Karlson), en la que su mujer,  Jean Hazalwood, es autora del guión y Estado de alarma (J. B. Harris). Entre sus últimos papeles destacan películas como Brigada homicida (Don Siegel), Asesinato en el Orient Express(Sidney Lumet), Montaña rusa (J. Goldstone) y Coma (M. Crichton). En televisión participa en la serie Madigan y en seis telefilmes, entre ellos Mr. Horn (J. Starrett). 

Richard Widmark falleció el 24 de marzo de 2008 en su casa de Roxbury a los 93 años, tras una larga enfermedad.
